COVID:19 – Namibia records 158 new cases, one death

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia on Saturday recorded 158 new COVID-19 cases and one death.

In the daily update availed on Sunday, Shangula said the new cases are part of 2 137 tested samples in the last 24-hours, representing a 7.4 per cent positivity ratio with a gender distribution of 65 males and 93 females between five months and 79 years.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number at 112, followed by Erongo with 16, llKaras 13, Omaheke six, Hardap five, Otjozondjupa four while Kavango East and the Zambezi recorded one each.

The cases include 23 students, 13 learners from different schools, eight healthcare workers and three teachers.

Nine cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 37 cases are fully vaccinated, he said.

Namibia on Saturday had 679 active cases of which 21 are hospitalised and two are admitted to the intensive care unit. The cases in ICU are not vaccinated.

Eight new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 125 531.

The minister also reported that by 03 December this year, a total of 376 808 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine of which 87 417 had received the single dose Janssen & Johnson vaccine, while 230 228 people had received two doses. A total of 317 645 people had therefore completed their vaccination.

The total COVID-19 related deaths now stand at 3 574.
