COVID-19: Namibia records 24 new cases, no deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 24 new COVID-19 cases.

No deaths were recorded in the COVID-19 update, which was issued Tuesday.

Shangula said the new cases represented a 1.9 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 15 females and nine males between the ages of three and 72 years.

The Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of cases at eight, followed by Omusati with five and Erongo with four. The Omaheke, ||Kharas, Kunene, Khomas, Otjozondjupa, Oshana and Kavango West regions all recorded one case each.

Of the confirmed cases, 10 were learners and one, a teacher. One case received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and only one person was fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Monday had 904 active cases, of which 49 were hospitalised and five in intensive care.

Twenty-three recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 921.

A cumulative 297 966 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, of which 33 421 received the Janssen & Johnson vaccine, and 193 086 had been fully vaccinated.
