COVID-19: Namibia records 241 new cases and eight deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Friday recorded 241 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 333.

Shangula in the daily COVID-19 update said of the newly reported deaths, one occurred within the 24-hour reporting cycle.

“One home death was recorded from the Rundu district,” he said.

The minister went on to say the newly confirmed cases were identified from 1 378 results received from laboratories and represented an 18 per cent positivity ratio.

The cases had a gender distribution of 141 female and 100 male patients, with the youngest being two weeks old and the oldest, 98 years.

Omusati recorded the highest number of cases at 64 followed by Erongo with 47 cases, Khomas 23, Otjozondjupa 20 and Oshikoto as well as Oshana with 19 cases each. ||Kharas recorded 18 cases, Ohangwena 11, Kunene six, Omaheke five, Hardap four, Kavango West three and Kavango East, two cases.

Namibia on Friday had 2 797 active cases, of which 262 were hospitalised and 48 in intensive care units.

Shangula also announced 143 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 117 342.

A cumulative 198 429 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Friday while 93 647 had received their second dose.
