COVID-19: Namibia records 26 cases and two deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Tuesday recorded 26 COVID-19 cases and two deaths, bringing total deaths in the country to 4 004.

In the daily update issued Wednesday, Shangula said the cases formed part of 1 232 results and represented a 2.1 per cent positivity ratio. Of the cases, 24 are new and two are reinfections. The sex distribution of the cases is 11 females and 15 males aged between one and 92 years.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of new cases at nine, followed by Oshikoto with five, Otjozondjupa three, Omaheke three and Erongo two, while Kavango East and Kunene recorded one case each.

Among the confirmed cases five are learners and one, a health care worker.

Nine cases are fully vaccinated while 18 are not vaccinated, accounting for 69.2 per cent of the total confirmed cases.

Shangula further reported that 68 new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 152 571.

The number of active cases on Tuesday stood at 2 564 of which 37 were hospitalised and three were admitted to intensive care units (ICU). Four cases in the hospital are fully vaccinated, and none of the cases in the ICU is vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by 21 February 2022, a total 430 518 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 122 654 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A total 9 407 are children aged between 12 and 17 years.

A total of 248 613 people have received two doses thus 371 267 people had completed their vaccination, translating to 25.2 per cent of the target population. Meanwhile, 25 309 people have received booster doses.
