COVID-19: Namibia records 90 new cases, 11 deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced on Wednesday that Namibia on Tuesday recorded 90 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and 11 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 3 386.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Wednesday said seven deaths occurred between 20 to 27 August 2021 and two occurred between 28-29 August 2021, while two occurred on 30 August 2021, and that none of the deceased individuals were vaccinated.

The cases have a gender distribution of 64 female and 26 male patients, with the youngest being one-month-old and the oldest, 114 years.

Omusati recorded the highest number of positive cases at 19, followed by ||Kharas with 15, Oshikoto 13, Zambezi 12, Khomas 10, Ohangwena seven, Otjozondjupa seven, Oshana four, Erongo two and Kunene one case.

Shangula said of all the reported cases, 21 are learners from different schools, three teachers and one healthcare worker, and that of all the confirmed cases, two had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while three had been fully vaccinated.

Namibia, currently has 2 291 active cases, of which 170 are hospitalised and 37 are in intensive care units.

Furthermore, 550 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 119 448.

A cumulative number of 213 438 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 01 September 2021, while 115 624 people had received their second doses.
