Windhoek: The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has made a significant contribution to the education sector by donating laptops and sanitary pads valued at N.dollars 350,000. These items have been provided to selected schools through the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEISAC).

According to Namibia Press Agency, the schools slated to receive the laptop donations include Martin Ndumba Secondary School, Kanorombwe Combined School, and Kippi George Primary School, all located in the Kavango East Region. Meanwhile, in the Omaheke Region, Epako Junior Secondary School and Epukiro Post Three Junior Secondary School are the recipients of the sanitary pads.

Deputy Minister of MEISAC, Dino Ballotti, expressed gratitude on behalf of the ministry, emphasizing the symbolic importance of the donation. Ballotti articulated that the handover represents hope, opportunity, and a belief in providing every young person with access to quality education and the necessary tools to succeed.

Ballotti further highlighted the role of education in national development, stating that it equips young individuals with crucial knowledge and skills, enabling them to make significant contributions to the community and economy. He acknowledged that many students face obstacles such as financial challenges, gender inequality, and inadequate infrastructure, which hinder their educational progress.

He pointed out that initiatives like CRAN's donation play a vital role in addressing these barriers. The provision of laptops is expected to enhance students' access to digital learning resources, thus helping to bridge the digital divide in a rapidly advancing technological landscape.

Additionally, Ballotti addressed the importance of the sanitary pad donation, noting that menstrual hygiene management is often overlooked but critical to educational access. He explained that the lack of affordable sanitary products can lead to absenteeism, school dropouts, and perpetuate gender inequality. By providing sanitary pads, CRAN is empowering girls to stay in school and pursue their aspirations, reinforcing the importance of every girl's education and dignity.
