Windhoek: The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has called for greater collaboration and investment in digital skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation to ensure Namibians benefit from the country's growing digital economy. CRAN Chief Executive Officer, Emilia Nghikembua, made the call during the authority's second Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship Breakfast held in Oshakati on Monday under the theme 'Unlocking Opportunities for Namibia's Digital Economy'.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the event brought together government leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, innovators, industry experts, and development stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges within Namibia's digital economy. Nghikembua emphasized that digital transformation is critical to the country's sustainable development and economic growth. She stated, "Digital transformation is no longer an option; it is imperative." She added that Namibia must embrace technological opportunities while ensuring that citizens, businesses, and communities are not left behind.

Nghikembua outlined that CRAN's mandate extends beyond connectivity and spectrum management, with the authority also focused on promoting digital inclusion, innovation, cybersecurity, stakeholder engagement, and market growth. She mentioned these priorities align with CRAN's Integrated Strategic Business Plan 2026-2030. "Meaningful participation in the digital economy requires more than infrastructure. It requires skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation ecosystems, cybersecurity awareness, and strong partnerships between regulators, government institutions, educational institutions, the private sector, and entrepreneurs," Nghikembua said.

Participants at the breakfast also discussed market development, entrepreneurship, innovation, connectivity, and digital skills. CRAN stated that the breakfast forms part of its broader efforts to support Namibia's digital transformation agenda and create opportunities for young people and emerging innovators to participate in the digital economy. The authority expressed its aim to use such engagements to facilitate collaboration, stimulate innovation, and encourage the development of locally driven digital solutions that contribute to national development.

CRAN affirmed its commitment to fostering a secure, innovative, inclusive, and competitive communications sector that enables citizens and businesses to participate in the digital age.
