Waterberg Plateau: Environment, Forestry and Tourism Minister, Indileni Daniel, in the company of her Executive Director, Sikongo Haihambo, recently took part in a rhino dehorning exercise during a familiarisation visit to the Waterberg Plateau National Park.
According to Namibia Press Agency, a statement issued by the ministry on Tuesday indicated that the aim of the visit was for the minister to gain firsthand insight into the park's operations and conservation initiatives. As part of her engagement, Daniel participated in a rhino dehorning exercise, designed to deter poachers by reducing the appeal of rhino horns as a measure to safeguard Namibia's rare and endangered wildlife species.
Daniel further engaged with the park personnel, who often work in isolation and under challenging conditions, praising them for their dedication to preserving the nation's wildlife and environmental resources, the statement read. It further said the visit reinforced the importance of the ministry's mandate in managing and preserving the natural resources of Namibia.
