Beijing: Third seed Alex de Minaur of Australia moved forward to the semifinals of the China Open after Czech Republic's Jakub Mensik retired while trailing 4-1 in the opening set. De Minaur had broken twice in the third and fifth games to establish an early advantage before the 20-year-old Mensik withdrew. The Australian had previously won all three of their prior encounters.

He began the year ranked No. 49 and secured his first ATP title in Miami by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. De Minaur, at 26, is set to face world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy next, who won against Hungary's Fabian Marozsan in another quarterfinal match.

In the women's draw, Russia's fourth seed Mirra Andreeva advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
