Windhoek: The second edition of the Dino Vezepa Karita football and netball tournament will take place from Friday to Sunday at Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek. The event, organized by the Namibia Rural Sports Development Federation (NRSDF), commemorates the late Karita, a significant contributor to rural sports development.
According to Namibia Press Agency, tournament organizer Ngatuuane Hange highlighted Karita's pivotal role in NRSDF. Karita was known for playing with the Aminuis All-Stars and managing local teams. He also formed the Kalahari Constituency football team, actively participating in NRSDF competitions.
Hange mentioned that Karita was dedicated to grassroots sports and was a strong advocate for nurturing local talent through tournaments in the Khomas and Omaheke regions. For this year's tournament, 24 football teams have confirmed their participation, while netball registration continues. The total prize money for the tournament is set at N.dollars 42 000.
The football champions will be awarded N.dollars 15 000, a trophy, and gold medals, with the runner-up receiving N.dollars 8 000 and silver medals. Semi-finalists will each earn N.dollars 3 500, and seven individual prizes will be presented to outstanding players.
In the netball category, the winning team will receive N.dollars 6 000, a trophy, and gold medals, while the runner-up will take home N.dollars 3 000 and silver medals. Semi-finalists in this category will earn N.dollars 1 500 each.
Friday's matches will kick off with Talismanus Celtic facing Otjimanangombe, followed by Okazapamba against Mafumhe FC, Iipumbu Shiimi FC versus Kasaona Legends, and Okauua Rising Stars playing Big Birds. Saturday will feature Western Tigers against Windhoek's MPSH, Dream Team against Okovakuejuva, and Dolam Pirates welcoming Super Stars B team.
Additional Saturday matches include Katutura Central All Stars against Evara United, Soweto Finest hosting Super Stars A team, Renamo Bucks versus Omutumba Okaserandu, Opuwo Hungry Warriors facing Stars FC, and Bradas FC meeting Africa United. Sunday is reserved for the second round of matches.
