Beijing: Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are accused of intentionally distorting historical facts about the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, with the objective of advancing their secessionist agenda, a spokesperson from the Chinese mainland stated on Wednesday. Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed the issue at a regular press conference, where she refuted a series of claims made by the DPP, including their omission of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) role in the war.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Zhu criticized the DPP authorities for erasing the CPC’s contribution as the central force in the war against Japanese aggression, labeling it as a significant insult to those who perished during the conflict, and a betrayal of the Chinese nation. Zhu emphasized that this act exposes the DPP’s intentions to misrepresent history, provoke cross-strait confrontation, and further their secessionist goals.

Zhu also addressed Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te’s reference to August 15 as the 80th anniversary of “the end of World War II on the Pacific front.” She noted that Lai avoided using terms such as “Japanese aggression” or “victory of the war against Japanese aggression” in his writings that day, which she claims shows a loss of national stance and an intentional disregard for the historical facts of Chinese resistance against Japanese aggression.

Zhu highlighted the period from 1931 to 1945, when the Chinese nation, including Taiwan compatriots, overcame Japanese militarists through sacrifice and bloodshed. She expressed her hope for unity among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, urging them to honor history, commemorate fallen heroes, safeguard the Chinese nation’s interests, and oppose “Taiwan independence” and external interference. Zhu concluded by encouraging joint efforts toward reunification and national rejuvenation.
