Outjo: The Dr Libertina Amathila sports tournament officially kicked off at Outjo in the Kunene region on Monday. The annual event, held to promote the social inclusion of indigenous and marginalised communities in Namibia, comprises teams from ten regions with 368 participants. It features football, netball, and volleyball.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Vice President Lucia Witbooi officially opened the tournament at the Outjo Sports Stadium. She stated that indigenous communities are the custodians of their ancestral heritage and that this tournament serves as a platform for social inclusion. "No community must be left behind. Indigenous communities continue to face marginalisation, and indigenous youth are therefore given this platform to showcase their skills," Witbooi said.

She urged the participants to compete with discipline, fairness, and respect. The top performers of the tournament will walk away with N.dollars 50,000, while the runners-up will receive sports gear and kits. The event ends on Friday.
