Windhoek: The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Friday issued a statement to address public concerns on the Supplementary Registration of Voters (SRV).
According to Namibia Press Agency, ECN Chief Executive and Referenda Officer, Peter Shaama, stated that the SRV scheduled for 04-19 August 2025 will be conducted strictly in line with the existing boundaries for regions, constituencies, and local authorities. This comes in response to public queries following a recent article in a local newspaper that highlighted voters' need for clarity on new constituencies.
Shaama emphasized that the commission cannot comment on reports concerning new constituencies, as these are still under review by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. He clarified that the ECN's role was only to prepare the report, and they are not permitted to discuss or provide opinions on the document until a final decision is made by the President.
Furthermore, Shaama confirmed that the commission is prepared to conduct the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections, which are scheduled for 26 November 2025, as detailed in Government Gazette 5261.
