Windhoek: Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), Peter Shaama, has called on political parties, organizations, and associations to submit their nominations for the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections promptly.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Shaama made this appeal during an information-sharing session on the 2025 Regional and Local Authorities Councils electoral calendar at the Government Information Centre. He highlighted that 59 local authorities would participate in this year's elections and stressed the importance of adhering to the final nomination submission date, which is set for 12 October. This deadline is crucial for the ECN to complete its necessary administrative tasks.

Shaama further noted that 14 October would be the last day for the nomination of independent candidates. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in educating voters to ensure robust voter turnout. "I reiterate our request for all of us to play our part collectively to make sure that we educate all our voters and supporters so that they turn out in big numbers," Shaama stated.

He also reminded registered voters to keep their voter cards secure, as they will be required for participation in the voting process. "By now, we have all registered, and they have the key. That key is the voter's card. I urge you to keep the voter's card safe in preparation for 26 November," he added.

Shaama explained that early voting would be conducted on 24 November, specifically for election officials and police officers who will be stationed outside their constituencies on polling day. This is a change from last year's early voting, which included all members of the security cluster and seagoing personnel. The general voting for registered Namibian voters is scheduled for 26 November 2025.
