Ecuador Reports Assassination Attempt on President Noboa

Quito: The Ecuadorian government announced that it had filed a criminal complaint following an alleged assassination attempt on President Daniel Noboa during his visit to the southern province of Canar. The incident took place in the town of El Tambo as Noboa's motorcade was en route to a local stadium for the launch of new public works.According to Namibia Press Agency, Environment and Energy Minister Ines Manzano reported that approximately 500 individuals attacked the motorcade, throwing stones and causing bullet marks on the president's vehicle. Despite the attack, President Noboa was unharmed.Police have apprehended five suspects who are set to face terrorism charges. Several vehicles in the convoy suffered damage during the incident. The presidential office has accused the attackers of attempting to obstruct the inauguration of a community project.The attack occurred amid ongoing nationwide protests led by indigenous communities. These protests erupted following the government's decision to elimin ate diesel subsidies on September 12, leading to a sharp rise in fuel prices and widespread unrest across the nation.
