Cairo: Egypt on Thursday dispatched a humanitarian aid convoy to Gaza, its first after a deal was reached on the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the convoy, managed by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), marks the fourth aid shipment from Egypt to Gaza since July 27, as reported by Egypt's Al-Qahera News TV. The convoy is transporting thousands of tons of essential food supplies, such as rice, pasta, flour, and baby formula, along with medicines and medical supplies. The journey commenced amid expressions of joy and optimism, the report noted.

The convoy traversed the Rafah crossing, the sole link between the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip, before proceeding towards the Kerem Shalom crossing. There, it underwent inspection by Israeli authorities prior to entering the Gaza Strip, as mentioned in the report.

Earlier on Thursday, mediators involved in the Israel-Hamas discussions announced that an agreement had been reached regarding all provisions and implementation mechanisms related to the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal. A final draft of the agreement is currently in progress.

The deal aims to end the conflict, secure the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid into the enclave. Further details are expected to be announced subsequently.

The announcement of the agreement followed three days of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel held in Egypt's resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, which focused on a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
