Elephant Cow Gunned Down at Kakiramupepo

Kakiramupepo: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol), in collaboration with officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, is investigating a registered case of hunting a specially protected game species without a permit after an elephant cow was shot and killed at Kakiramupepo village in the Zambezi Region. A preliminary NamPol report availed to Nampa indicates that the incident occurred on Wednesday at around 21h00.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Kakiramupepo is situated in the Sangwali area of the Judea Lyabboloma Constituency. 'It is alleged that the suspect shot and killed a sub elephant cow with an (NK) rifle. By doing so, he claims to have been protecting a crop field when the elephant charged and was left with no option but to kill it,' the report states.

The elephant cow is valued at N.dollars 195 000. The male suspect, who is known and is a game guard in the area, has not been arrested. Police investigations into the matter continue.
