Windhoek: The Erongo Directorate of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture has relaunched applications for 2027 pre-primary and Grade 1 admissions following the suspension of the initial registration process earlier this month. Erongo Regional Council Chief Regional Officer Sem Ntelamo announced the relaunch at a media briefing, stating that the suspension was necessary to assess school infrastructure and create a fair placement strategy due to high demand for school places.According to Namibia Press Agency, Ntelamo explained that the review considered classroom availability, ongoing school construction, and enrolment demand to ensure equitable allocation of spaces. The strategy includes optimizing available space and potentially introducing platoon systems to provide fair opportunities for all children.Erongo Acting Director of Education, Helen Asino, announced that applications will officially open on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, for schools in the Swakopmund and Walvis Bay circuits. Applicatio ns for pre-primary are for children born in 2021, while Grade 1 is for those born in 2020. The application period runs from 21 July to 27 July 2026.Standardised application forms can be collected from various regional offices and downloaded from the Erongo Regional Council's website. Completed forms must be submitted by the closing date. Verification and processing of applications will occur from 04 to 07 August 2026, and placement decisions will be communicated on 20 August 2026.Asino stressed that admissions will be conducted fairly and transparently, rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. Children not placed in preferred schools will still be considered for other placements by the regional committee, depending on available space.
