Abuja: The Federal Government has inaugurated a Governing Board for the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), to strengthen and enhance its activities. Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Owan Enoh, while inaugurating the Governing Board of the NSDC in Abuja, said that the council should intensify efforts in its activities to achieve its mandates and goals.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister emphasized that the inauguration of the board would aid in reinforcing the council's operations. He urged the board to work diligently to achieve significant results within the next three months. Enoh highlighted the necessity for commitment and collective effort to promote the council's growth and stated his responsibility to report progress to the President. He stressed the importance of achieving the council's goals and mandates through concerted efforts.

The minister also encouraged the board to focus on the effective implementation of brownfield backward integration projects. He emphasized the need for identifying fertile sites for sugarcane cultivation and ensuring the land's productivity. Enoh underlined the competitive nature of the market, particularly with countries like Brazil, and pointed out the importance of cost-effective production to stay competitive.

Responding to the minister's address, Chairman of the board, Sen. Surajudeen Basiru, expressed gratitude for the opportunity extended to him and other board members. He assured that the board would strive to perform well and fulfill the council's objectives. Basiru committed to delivering positive results within the stipulated three-month period and pledged not to disappoint the minister and Nigerians.
