Ankara: Flydubai airline is preparing for resumption of flights to Syria, a company spokesperson told RIA Novosti on Wednesday. On Monday, media reported that the United Arab Emirates' General Civil Aviation Authority would soon resume flights to Syria.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Flydubai is welcoming the decision of the UAE authorities and is in touch with competent institutions. The spokesperson added that the resumption of flights to Syria will be announced as soon as all necessary preparations are completed and the permissions are received.
Flights from the United Arab Emirates to Syria were suspended more than a decade ago due to armed conflict and instability in Syria. On Sunday, Ahmed Sharaa, the leader of the new Syrian administration, visited the UAE and held talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who confirmed his readiness to support Syria during the transition period.
Syria's armed opposition captured Damascus on December 8, 2024. Bashar Assad stepped down as Syrian president and left the country. In January, Sharaa was declared transitional president.
