Windhoek: First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) and Arch Resources (Pty) Ltd have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Windhoek to facilitate improved access to project finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the construction and infrastructure sectors across Namibia.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the collaboration is set to tackle the existing hurdles faced by SMEs in securing project finance. These challenges include limited collateral availability, brief financial histories, and cash flow issues during the execution phase of projects. The MoU outlines that Arch Resources will extend technical support, conduct project vetting, and oversee monitoring, while FNB Namibia will offer tailored financial solutions to qualifying SMEs.

FNB Namibia Head of SME Banking, Nesdha De Jongh, emphasized that acquiring a project is merely the initial step for many SMEs. The primary obstacle lies in securing adequate financial backing to ensure successful project delivery. 'For many SMEs, securing a project is only the beginning of the journey. The real challenge is often having the right financial support to successfully deliver that project,' he stated. De Jongh further highlighted that the partnership not only provides financial access but also offers the essential technical support and project oversight needed for effective project completion.

Representatives from Arch Resources echoed the significance of the partnership, indicating that this MoU marks the start of a cooperative strategy between the two entities. They expressed optimism about the potential impact of the collaboration on SMEs.

According to FNB, the partnership aims to bolster SMEs' capabilities to execute projects, engage in larger value chains, and contribute positively to the economic landscape.
