Chuzhou:A public prosecution has been initiated against Chen Weijun, the former vice chairman of the government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on charges of bribery. The case has been filed by the Chuzhou Municipal People's Procuratorate in Anhui Province with the Intermediate People's Court of Chuzhou.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chen is accused of exploiting his various former positions in Zhejiang Province and Xinjiang to secure profits for others, illegally accepting a large amount of money and valuables. The prosecution follows an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision, which led to the Supreme People's Procuratorate's decision to arrest him on suspicion of taking bribes.

Chen was placed under investigation in November 2025 for suspected serious violations of Communist Party of China (CPC) discipline and the law. He was a member of the standing committee of the Xinjiang regional committee of the CPC at the time.

An official statement in June announced Chen's expulsion from the CPC and his dismissal from public office. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision found that Chen violated the Party's political, organizational, integrity, and life discipline, amounting to serious duty-related violations and suspected bribery.

The statement described Chen's case as "particularly serious with an extremely negative impact." It was also decided to confiscate Chen's illicit gains and revoke his qualification as a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress.
