Outjo: Swapo Party candidate for the Outjo Constituency in the upcoming regional councils and local authorities elections, Kleofas Gaingob, says his development plan will focus on agricultural growth, youth empowerment, tourism improvement, and stronger municipal services. Gaingob, who served as mayor of Outjo from 2010 to 2015, told Nampa in an interview that his main priority is the establishment of an agricultural hub in Outjo in partnership with the regional governor and the constituency office.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Gaingob mentioned that this initiative will open access to markets for both commercial and small-scale farmers. He emphasized that Outjo is surrounded by commercial farms and small farmers who face challenges in finding a market for their products, and the proposed agricultural hub aims to support these farmers. During his tenure as mayor, Outjo experienced significant development, including the expansion of retail shops, which he regards as achievements under his leadership.
In terms of youth empowerment, Gaingob plans to identify young people's skills and link them with central government initiatives. He stressed the importance of mobilizing and connecting the youth's skillsets with government programs. Encouraging young entrepreneurship, he assured that his office would provide consultations and advice. Additionally, he intends to utilize existing sports facilities to create recreational and income-generating opportunities for the youth. Engaging institutions that offer funding for small and medium enterprises is also on Gaingob's agenda to support youth ventures.
For tourism, Gaingob plans to revamp the under-utilised Outjo Tourism Centre and collaborate with the municipality to enhance sanitation. He aims to transform Outjo into a clean tourist gateway town and promises reliable water services along with improved municipal delivery. Gaingob emphasized the need for community input in guiding his development plans, ensuring that the community is involved in the decision-making process.
He called on all residents to support him in the elections, asserting that he will serve as a councillor for the entire constituency, transcending political affiliations.
