Geingob confers 32 national honour awards

President Hage Geingob on Wednesday conferred national honours on 32 people who commendably contributed to Namibia’s liberation struggle and the country’s development at large.

Speaking at the conferring ceremony held at State House, Geingob said he bestows the national honours by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 32 of the Namibian Constitution to honour personalities who significantly contributed to the liberation struggle and the country’s development through their political, military, diplomatic, humanitarian, socio-economic development, education, health, media contributions, as well as the promotion of peace and justice in Namibia.

Amongst those were honoured were the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela, former Minister of Safety and Security Charles Namoloh, Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Child Welfare Doreen Sioka and Namibia’s High Commissioner to Botswana Asser Kapere who all received the Most Brilliant Order of the Sun, First Class award.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform Anna Shigweda, Khomas Region Governor Laura Mcleod-Katjirua and secretary of the Swapo Party Women’s Council Eunice Iipinge received the award of the Most Excellent Order of the Eagle, First Class.
