Accra: Ghana's president John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday presented a cash reward of 500,000 Ghana cedis (40,000 U.S. dollars) to the University for Development Studies (UDS) for winning the FISU University Football World Cup in China. Making the donation to the team, President Mahama commended the university for its feat, calling it part of his "reset Ghana" agenda.
According to Namibia Press Agency, President Mahama expressed his appreciation for the team's achievement, emphasizing its significance to his broader vision for the country. "I would like to commend all those who made this team win the University Football World Cup, and we are all proud of you, as this is part of the reset agenda," said Mahama. He further mentioned that the government is working to strengthen youth and university sports systems to ensure that talented students or athletes are identified, developed, and supported to reach professional levels.
Ghana's UDS achieved a notable victory by defeating defending champion Paulista University of Brazil 2-1 to secure the FISU University World Football World Cup title in northeast China's Dalian last month.
