The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has availed a grant of over N.dollars 1.6 million to the City of Windhoek (CoW) to help construct bicycle lanes in certain parts of the capital.

CoW Manager for Corporate Communication, Marketing and Public Participation, Harold Akwenye confirmed to Nampa on Tuesday that GIZ made a pledge to help CoW construct bicycle lanes within the existing road lanes, as well as along existing sidewalks.

He said the construction will take place along Florence Nightingale Street in Khomasdal and Dr Kuaima Riruako Street in Dorado Park and Windhoek West.

“Andrew Kloppers Street and Brahms Street traffic flow will be diverted to allow for adequate working space for the contractor. The public should take note of changes in traffic conditions during and after construction,” said Akwenye.

He added that the actual work will commence on 08 September 2021 and will continue until 31 January 2022. Therefore, members of the public are urged to adhere to the traffic signage and restrictions around the construction sites.
