Late liberation stalwart, Abel Shuudeni Haluteni, will be laid to rest on Thursday at Omugulugwombashe in the Omusati Region.

Haluteni died on 09 January 2022 at the age of 82.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in a media statement on Tuesday said the burial will be held at the Memorial Site at Omugulugwombashe, while the memorial service will be held on Wednesday at Haluteni’s homestead at Onandjandja village in the Omusati Region.

“The ministry would like to inform the media and the public that the state funeral will be conducted under strict compliance with the public health COVID-19 general regulations,” said the statement.

It further said the late Haluteni is one of the 17 Swapo members who was sentenced to life imprisonment at Robben Island, however he only served 19 years after he was released from prison in October 1985.

After his release, Haluteni went back into exile, joining other patriots at Castanyera Swapo Refugee Camp until his return to Namibia in 1989.

In 1992, the government allocated the late Haluteni a plot at Onandjandja, where he resided until his death.
