Tsumeb: Hofni Hamunyela was on Friday elected as the new mayor of Tsumeb after an official swearing-in ceremony of political office bearers, presided over by Magistrate Karen Kleopas.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Swapo Party secured the majority with three out of the seven seats on the town council. The Community Representative Organisation of Tsumeb (CROT) won two seats, while the Independent Patriot of Change (IPC) and the Affirmative Repositioning (AR) each obtained one seat.
Hamunyela will be deputised by Lisken Elisabeth Klaasen from the CROT party. Sem Nghuulikwa from the AR party was chosen as the chairperson of the management committee. Other management committee members include Hendrina Nzwala and Thomas Akwenye from the Swapo Party. Elifas Malasa from IPC and Richard Naobeb from the CROT party will continue as ordinary council members.
In his acceptance speech, Hamunyela assured the residents of Tsumeb that it will not be business as usual, committing to serve alongside his team, despite anticipated challenges. 'I believe if we work together, we will make sure that the service reaches our people as we represent the masses,' he stated.
