always put the interests of others before him during his presidency period.

Representing NANTU, Lukas Mbangu echoed this on Friday during the memorial service of the former deputy prime minister held in Rundu that attracted more people to pay last respects to their iconic leader.

With COVID-19 measures strictly in place, that only allow 100 people for gathering, the day programme was drafted to accommodate nominated people and lasted in the required time of two hours as per the government COVID-19 regulations.

Appearing on the list were speakers representing neighbours at Safari residential area, traditional leaders of Mbunza and Hambukushu, the Council of Churches in Namibia, NANTU and representatives from the veterans of the liberation struggle organisation in the two Kavango regions.

Mbangu described Hausiku as a giant of life who stood firm and dedicated his whole life to the liberation struggles of Namibia not forgetting the wellbeing of Namibian teachers.

“Hausiku was a dedicated, committed person towards any assignment given to him, he was the chairperson of the steering committee and played a big role during the formation of NANTU, he travelled all over the country to different schools and mobilised teachers to join the teacher union,” Mbangu said.

Because of these commitments and contribution he was elected as the founding president of NANTU.

He said during Hausiku’s presidency era he was a humble person who stood firm to his decisions, a disciplined and highly principled person who worked hard during his leadership to develop the union.

The current leadership recognised their first president as a person associated with rare values and principle amongst others are time consciousness and that he could be easily approached by all people regardless of their ages.

Mbangu said Hausiku was a friend to all and enemy to none, above all he was a good listener, authentic and remained true to himself throughout his life.
