Heita crowned new WBA Pan African Super bantamweight champion

Namibia’s Super bantamweight boxer Matheus ‘The Beast’ Heita was on Saturday crowned the new World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Pan Africa Super Bantamweight champion after defeating Tinashe Mwadziwana of Zimbabwe in Walvis Bay.

The coastal town-based Heita who fights under the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy stable competed for the vacant WBO Africa Super Bantamweight title at the ‘Together as One’ part 5 boxing bonanza organised by Nestor Tobias boxing academy.

The Namibian boxer has a record of 6 fights; 6 wins and extended his winning record to 7 fights and 7 wins when he won against his Zimbabwean opponent Mwadziwana who retired in the sixth round of their scheduled 12-rounds bout.

Heita started the fight on an attack mode, cornering his opponent with a combination of mixed blows which did not deter his opponent who was also unwavering and was aiming for the vacant belt crowning as well.

Finally, after six rounds of exchanging leathers, the Zimbabwean super bantamweight champion and his corner terminated the fight and opted not to proceed to round seven, resulting in Heita being crowned his first-ever title and the new African Super Bantamweight Champion.

After the fight, Heita told the media that he was not worried about Mwadziwana temporal bravery as he knew he would catch him at a point with a punch that will dethrone him a title hope.

“I was only waiting for the right time to give him what he came for and I knew I will knock him out,” Heita said.

Mwadziwana on his part said it was not his day at all and he and his training camp will go back to the drawing board to see what will be the next.

“All I can say is that it was not my day and is up to my coaches to see what will be next,” he said.

Meanwhile, in other fights, Lasarus Namalambo from Bright Warriors Boxing Academy in Oshigambo, Oshikoto region was crowned the new Namibia Bantamweight National champion after he beat Andreas Mwenyo from MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy on a unanimous decision in their ten rounder bouts.

The National Bantamweight title was taken by Martin Mukungu who was crowned the new National champion after defeating Immanuel Jason with a knockout in their last tenth round of the ten rounds bouts.

The National Super Bantamweight title fight between Phillipus Shaanika and Joseph Abel was declared as a technical draw after Shaanika sustained an injury to his left eye.

In the International Super Middleweight division, Max Ipinge improved his professional record to six wins and one loss after he beat Tinashe Zihove from Zimbabwe on a unanimous decision while Namibia’s Sebastianus Natanael lost to Steven Bagwasi from Botswana on a unanimous decision in the International Featherweight division.

Nestor Thomas knocked out Antoni Moses in the third round of their four-rounder bouts, Rafael Iita lost to Elson Kalus on points, Lineekela Nghifindaka knocked out Gerson Alweendo in the third round of their four-rounder bouts while Fredrick Nghuutenanye won Johannes Morsande on points.

Erastus Shapaka lost his first Pro debut fight against Festus Simeon on a unanimous decision in the Pro Debt.
