Mariental: Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Lucia Iipumbu, recently visited the Hardap Correctional Facility to extend the ministry's support to staff mourning the loss of their colleagues from a tragic accident that occurred two months ago.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the accident, which took place on 30 August 2025, involved a head-on collision between a Namibian Correctional Services vehicle and a Namibian Police Force vehicle on the B1 road. The incident, which resulted in the deaths of 12 correctional officers, two police officers, and two civilians, has left a deep impact on the community.

During her visit, Iipumbu emphasized the ministry's commitment to the well-being of the grieving staff. "The main reason why we came here is to touch base with the Namibian Correctional Service officers who lost their colleagues two months ago in a fatal crash. We have deployed psychological support to the colleagues which has been withdrawn and just wanted to see how they are coping... We will keep giving them moral support," she stated.

Iipumbu also expressed her condolences and offered words of encouragement to the correctional staff. "As a ministry as much as we don't come here every day to show solidarity, we are carrying you in our hearts and prayers while hoping that it gives you strength to cope with this great loss," she added.

Following her engagement with the staff, Iipumbu toured the correctional facility to review ongoing projects, including the construction of a warehouse, an agricultural site, and a piggery. Her visit also included meeting with the families of the two civilians who perished in the accident.
