It is time for Namibia to act and deliver on the opportunities offered by the proposed green hydrogen sector, which is the country’s hope for economic recovery and poverty eradication, President Hage Geingob has said.

Speaking at a media conference at State House on Monday following the recently concluded World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Geingob said Namibia’s participated in order to market the country as an attractive investment destination and share its ambitions with regard to renewable energy.

The president said the government will work closely with the private sector on the plans and opportunities that green hydrogen will unlock, noting that Namibia has an unprecedented opportunity to convert relevant policy into significant investments and associated industrialisation opportunities that will transform the economy.

“Namibians are impatient; they want immediate results, but things will start very soon. We have investors who are ready to invest in the sector, including Namibians who are ready. However, in the process, groundwork needs to be done by positioning the country as an attractive investment destination,” he noted.

Geingob further said the Namibian delegation included members of the private sector, emphasising that both the public and private sectors have to lure investors to the country in order to kick-start Namibia’s economic recovery.

“We share a common enemy, poverty and hunger, not each other. Let us unite against this enemy and attack it with all of our might and the resources at disposal,” said the president
