JSC announces six acting judges for Supreme Court

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced that President Hage Geingob has appointed six acting judges to the Supreme Court of Namibia, to enable the court to expand expeditiously with its work.

A media statement from the Office of the Judiciary on Tuesday said Rita Makarua, Johanna Prinsloo, Esi Schimming-Chase, Collins Parker, Justice Chinhengo and Ramon Maasdorp have been appointed as Acting Judges to the Supreme Court bench.

Makarua who will serve from 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 currently is a judge of the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe. She also served as Judge of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe and was Judge-President of the High Court of Zimbabwe.

Acting Judge Johanna Prinsloo will also serve from 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. Prinsloo currently serves as Judge of the High Court, having been appointed as such on 01 July 2017.

The third appointed Supreme Court Acting Judge is Esi Schimming-Chase, also from 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.

Schimming-Chase currently serves as Judge of the High Court, having been appointed on 01 April 2021.

The three remaining Supreme Court Acting Judges recommended by President Geingob are Collins Parker, Justice Chinhengo and Ramon Maasdorp.

Parker will serve from 01 April 2023 to 31 March 2023.

Chinhengo who is a retired judge from the High Court of Zimbabwe will serve from 18 September to 31 December 2023.

Acting Judge Maasdorp, who currently practices as a member of the Namibia Society of Advocates admitted in 2009, will be on the Supreme Court bench from 16 April 2023 to 31 July
