Baku:Kapako Kapako Constituency in the Kavango West Region has allocated its food-for-work funds to 11 local projects. These initiatives include road clearing, fencing, and improving access to water. The projects are part of a regional programme funded by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Kavango West Regional Council Deputy Director for Rural Services, Elizabeth Mupiri, revealed that the ministry has provided N$911,229 for the programme for the 2026/27 financial year. The funds are distributed among all eight constituencies in the region.
Mupiri noted that Kapako received the highest share of the funds, amounting to approximately N$205,000, which is 23% of the total allocation. In contrast, Mankupi received the lowest share, with 6%, equating to N$51,000. Other allocations included Mpungu with 17% (N$156,000), Musese with 11% (N$101,000), Ncamagoro with 7% (N$62,000), Nkurenkuru with 13% (N$117,000), Ncuncuni with 9% (N$81,000), and Tondoro with 15% (N$137,000).
The allocation was based on population statistics, while the Constituency Development Committees (CDC) identified the projects. Proposals were assessed by a technical committee for viability before approval. Kapako Constituency Councillor Augustinus Kupembona mentioned that the committee recommended 11 projects after receiving applications, with a priority on improving inland roads due to poor conditions.
The projects aim to cover about 65 kilometers of road, including routes from Kasivi village through Sindi, Samasira, Huwe, and Ncara, and branching from Samasira towards Karo and Mpusa. Other planned activities include clearing bushes around the constituency office, fencing a riverside site for a garden, and laying pipes to bring water closer to inland homes.
