Nkurenkuru: The fifth edition of the Kavango West Governor's Cup is set to take place from 27 February to 01 March 2026 at the Nkurenkuru Youth Expo Complex. Football and netball teams from all eight constituencies in the region will compete in the event. This was announced by Johannes Shaya Rugharo, the regional coordinator of the organising committee, during the official draw of the cup on Friday.According to Namibia Press Agency, Rugharo stated that this year's edition will target youths under 20, focusing on both competition and talent identification for regional representation across school sport codes. In addition to sports, the event will provide an opportunity for small business entrepreneurs to trade and showcase their products.Rugharo outlined the preparatory steps taken for the event, including key meetings such as a briefing with the governor, a Local Organising Committee (LOC) session to establish requirements, and engagement with the constituency councillor, all of which endorsed the event. He highlighted stricter eligibility verification this year, requiring team chairpersons to submit certified documents and parental consent letters for both football and netball participants.The tournament's draw revealed that Friday's fixtures will feature Nkurenkuru against Ncamagoro in the opening match, followed by Ncuncuni versus Mankumpi, and Mpungu facing Tondoro to conclude the day. Accommodation has been arranged at Kahenge Combined School through the Ministry of Education, with the LOC tasked with managing arrivals and logistics.Meanwhile, Governor's Cup Chairperson Seija Nairenge urged full participation from committee members and partners during the competition weekend. Nairenge emphasized the importance of consistent presence at the fields, ownership of the event, and readiness to host guests from other constituencies.As the region prepares to welcome teams and supporters to Nkurenkuru on 27 February 2026, the call is for full participation on the field, in the stands, and within the organis ing committee, Nairenge concluded.
