Rundu: KK United FC clinched promotion to the Namibia Premier League (NPL) with a commanding 4-0 victory over Unam Rundu Campus FC at the Rundu Sports Stadium on Saturday. In a historic first, the team became the first from Kavango West to qualify for Namibia's top flight, sealing its top-flight return with 41 points despite playing the season away from home.According to Namibia Press Agency, head coach Petrus Matjayi commented on the team's strategy, stating, "Our approach from the word go was to attack with numbers relentlessly, especially within the first 15-20 minutes of the first stanza, keeping the opposition in their half most of the time through aggressive pressing." The tactical deployment of effective wing play, utilizing the speed and trickery of wingers and a lone striker supported by two attacking midfielders, proved successful as they scored two goals within the first 25 minutes of the game.Matjayi noted the effectiveness of this wing play tactic, often used by teams such as Chula-Chula and Mighty Gunners. Reflecting on the challenges faced throughout the season without a home venue, he emphasized the mental resilience required, acknowledging the significant support and encouragement from various individuals which made them feel at home even when away.Looking ahead, Matjayi urged patience, highlighting the more tactical and structured nature of the NPL. He stated that the technical team would need to convene, consult, and strategize for the upcoming challenges.Club president Frans Kalenga expressed the profound impact of this achievement on Kavango West, anticipating possible developments in infrastructure, improved sports facilities, increased business activity, tourism, and youth empowerment. However, he warned of the risks posed by inadequate facilities that might shift benefits elsewhere. Kalenga emphasized the need for a collective regional effort.Team manager Herman Kambanzera shared his excitement and pride at winning the league, attributing their success to faith and determination, stating, "With God, everything is possible." With a resounding victory and a regional first, KK United now turn their focus to preparing for the demands of the NPL, both on and off the pitch.
