Latvia: Latvia's decision to demolish war memorials on a massive scale is a disgrace for the country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced on Monday that Latvia is planning to destroy a third of the monuments on mass graves in the country. This action comes ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, with the intent of denying the presence of such burial grounds under the monuments.

Peskov expressed his disapproval, stating, "To show such disrespect and thus treat the memory of those who saved you from fascism is probably a disgrace for the country. This is a shame to the country and a grief to the people who are at war with their history," while addressing reporters.
