Kuhlman nominated chairperson for mayor and chairperson forum executive committee

Mariental Town Council Mayor, Adam Kuhlman was selected as chairperson of the executive committee for the Mayors and Chairpersons Forum for a period of two years.

Kuhlman was nominated at the end of the mayors and chairpersons forum inaugural conference that took place in Mariental on Thursday and Friday.

The conference was attended by mayors, chairpersons and chief executive officers from 17 local authorities in the Hardap and ||Kharas Region.

In a media statement on Monday, Kuhlman said during the conference the local authorities resolved to collaborate by entering into cooperation agreements with the aim of sharing human capital resources in areas of governance and administration.

He said the agreements also aim for the local authorities to cooperate in mobilising and sharing resources for the construction of road infrastructure and bulk services in their respective towns and villages.

“We agree that we need to actively pursue, within the confines of governing legislation, the sourcing of own water to achieve partial or full self-sufficiency and to actively pursue investment opportunities in the generation of electricity through renewable energy,” he added.

Kuhlman went on to say that the local authorities also resolved to pursue and establish alternative revenue sources and investment opportunities with the view to increase revenue and to work as one unit when lobbying for resources from central government.

“We are looking forward to achieving much success through this mayors and chairpersons forum and believe that together we can take our local authorities to greater heights,” he cited.

Keetmanshoop Mayor, Maree Smit was nominated as deputy chairperson of the executive committee, Rehoboth Mayor, Enrico Junius is the treasurer while Lüderitz Mayor, Annemarie Hartzenberg and Sharon Bezuidenhoudt, the chairperson of Gibeon Village Council are ordinary members for the executive committee.
