The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation said the notice calling on the public to apply for business funding opportunities is fake and people should not respond to it.

This follows a notice that has been circulating on social media calling on applicants to apply for business and farming opportunities funding from the ministry.

In a media statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry’s acting executive director, Lydia Indombo, said the ministry is not running such a programme and members of the public should stop circulating it further as it may cause unnecessary expectations from members of the public.

The notice further alleges that the programme is powered by ‘International Development Association’ to support African citizens in small business and farming development whereby over 2 000 people will receive funding grants to grow their businesses to create more jobs and grow the economy. It states that interested people should send their full names to minister Utoni Nujoma’s email address to be added to the list for the grants.

“The ministry would like to caution the public that the notice did not originate from the office of the labour minister and there is no truth in it,” said Indombo.

She added that the public should always verify the authenticity of notices that are being claimed to be from office bearers or officials of the ministry through the public relations office, before taking any action that are likely to bear risk and irreparable damage.
