Lightning kills three at Ntara Village

Three people died and two were injured after they were struck by lightning at Ntara Village in the Kavango West Region on Saturday.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) revealed this in their weekend crime briefing report issued here on Sunday.

The three deceased’s next of kin have been informed of their deaths.

It is alleged that the five people were standing while watching soccer at the Ntara soccer field when lightning struck them.

Three people, identified as 16-year-old Paula Haingura and her 11-month-old daughter (name not provided) and 43-year-old Maseka Joseph, died on the spot.

Justina Haikera (32) and 26-year-old Kunberth Hausiku survived.

Both Haikera and Hausiku are receiving medical treatment at the Bunya Health Centre.

The deceased’s bodies were transported to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary.

In an unrelated incident at Rundu, police are investigating theft of N.dollars 40 000 out of a vehicle on Friday.

It is alleged that a 62-year-old man’s vehicle was broken into with an unknown object at Built It Rundu, where the thieves escaped with N.dollars 40 000.

No arrest has been made in connection with the incident.
