Looser and Broxham win Tour de Windhoek prologue

Namibia’s national female cycling champion, Vera Looser and South African rider Rickardo Broxham on Thursday won the new five-kilometre (km) prologue stage of the Tour de Windhoek.

The prologue stage is a sprint stage of the tour which decides the winner of the yellow jersey in the women’s and men’s categories in the first event of the tour.

Looser, who represents Mannie’s Bike Mecca’s (MBM)’s female team, completed the route in a time of 11 minutes, 41 seconds (11:41) followed by Anri Krugel, riding under Food Lover’s Market (FLM), who was three seconds behind her, with her teammate Melissa Hinz, who was in a photo finish with her in third with a time of 11:44.

In the men’s division, Broxham riding for Honeycomb Pro Cycling won the race in a photo finish with another South African rider, Tristan Cuthbert, riding for TEG Pro Cycling Team in a time of 09:10. Marc Pritzen, also riding for Honeycomb Pro Cycling, was a second behind in third place.

In the team classification, Honeycomb Pro Cycling is currently leading the standings with a time of 27:34 while the TEG Pro Cycling Team is second, one second behind them with a time of 27:35 and Simonis Storm p/b Hollard third with a time of 27:39.

FLM Ladies lead the women’s classification with a time of 35:21, followed by MBM Ladies, who are nine seconds behind with 35:30 and Cymot Racing Team Ladies who are third in a time of 35:50.
