A 37-year old man died instantly after being run over while crossing the Linyanti road in the Masokotwani area of the Zambezi Region on Sunday.

A weekend crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Monday said the deceased has been identified as Lilungwe Kasuka Michael. His next of kin have been informed.

The body was transported to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

No arrest has been made yet in connection with the matter.

The report also said the police in Zambezi are investigating a case of culpable homicide, failure to stop after an accident and failure to render assistance to an injured person after Jaja Nicky Kakoshi was found dead along the Trans-Caprivi Highway Saturday night.

Kakoshi’s body was found lying in the road by a passer-by, who reported the discovery to the police Sunday morning.

His next of kin were informed and the police are appealing for help from the public to trace the person responsible for the accident.

The police also reported that a man allegedly ran over his one-year-old daughter while reversing his Toyota pick-up at Tsintsabis on Saturday. The girl was rushed to the Tsintsabis clinic, but was declared dead upon arrival.

The body was transported to the Tsumeb police mortuary for an autopsy to be conducted.

Meanwhile, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a male suspect at Onambiya village on Friday.

It is alleged that the suspect, who is an Angolan national employed as a domestic worker in the family house, entered the girl’s sleeping hut during the night and had sexual intercourse with her while she was asleep. The victim woke up amidst the assault and reported the incident to her grandmother. The suspect fled when police attempted to arrest him.

Police investigations in all matters continue.
