Perth: A man has died after being tasered by police during an arrest in Western Australia (WA). WA Police reported that an investigation has been launched following the man's death, which occurred after he experienced a medical episode shortly after being tasered by officers in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Assistant Commissioner Martin Haime stated at a press conference that the incident began when the man allegedly entered a home in the Perth suburb of Embleton around 12:30 a.m. The home was occupied by individuals not known to him, and he proceeded to smash multiple windows. Police officers who responded to the scene found the man in a garden at the rear of the property and used a taser during attempts to detain him when he did not comply with their instructions.

The man was restrained but suffered a medical episode minutes later, Haime further explained. Police administered first aid until ambulance paramedics arrived and transported the man to a hospital, where he subsequently died.

Haime noted that the incident is being treated as a death in custody. "Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones during this difficult time," he said. Officers from WA Police's internal investigation unit will be conducting a thorough investigation into the man's death.
