Gobabis: A 40-year-old man was fatally stabbed at the Kanaan C location in Gobabis, Omaheke Region, on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the incident occurred at around 17h30 at a shebeen. It is alleged that the deceased and the suspect grabbed each other by their shirts and exchanged words at the shebeen, where they were drinking traditional brew. The report further alleges that a physical altercation broke out between the two, during which the suspect allegedly took a knife from his pocket and stabbed the deceased once in the upper body. The deceased then fell to the ground, after which the suspect reportedly stepped on him once before fleeing the scene.
Community members reportedly searched for the suspect and found him nearby in the Kanaan C settlement after he had changed clothes. He was then handed over to the police at the scene. The suspect was arrested and remanded in custody, and police investigations are continuing. Furthermore, the police commended community members for their efforts in ensuring that the suspect was apprehended without causing him any harm. However, the public has been advised to only monitor and report suspects, as they can be dangerous or may retaliate at any time.
The police also informed the public that the murder incidents that occurred in Gobabis are isolated cases with different motives. They further urged community members to take care of themselves, avoid engaging in fights, and refrain from carrying dangerous weapons. The police also encouraged members of the public to seek police assistance if they are provoked or observe signs of violent behaviour. Additionally, the Omaheke police dismissed allegations that there are no police vehicles or that there is no response from some police officers. “That is not true, unless a vehicle is engaged somewhere else. In that case, all commanders are under instruction to make arrangements with other stations or offices in the region to assist depending on the urgency of the matter.”
