Man Succumbs in Fiery Crash Involving Suspected Illegal Fuel in Oshikoto Region

Oniipa: The police in the Oshikoto Region are investigating a road accident that left one man dead and another fighting for his life after a vehicle allegedly transporting illegal fuel crashed and burst into flames on Tuesday. The accident occurred around midnight at Okapanda village along the Oshigambo-Onethindi road in the Oniipa Constituency.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Oshikoto Crime and Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, stated that the vehicle was traveling toward Onethindi when the driver lost control, veered off the road, and struck several trees before bursting into flames. 'It is alleged that the vehicle was transporting containers of illegal fuel,' Ekandjo stated.

The passenger, whose age is unknown, was burnt beyond recognition and died at the scene. The 40-year-old driver sustained life-threatening burn injuries and was rushed to Onandjokwe State Hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities have moved the deceased to the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
