Mariental: Hardap Governor Riaan McNab on Thursday dispatched a group of 270 senior citizens from the region to Ongwediva to engage in an annual wellness programme, which is scheduled to run until Sunday. McNab ensured the group's preparedness and welfare before their departure from Mariental, providing transportation and a cash donation of N.dollars 4,000.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the donation, along with light meals, water, and soft drinks for the journey, was made possible through contributions from the Christian Welfare Organisation from Rehoboth and the Abakhululi Foundation from South Africa, each donating N.dollars 2,000. McNab expressed his gratitude to the senior citizens for their enduring contributions to building Namibia over the years. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the elderly, acknowledging the significance of their actions and prayers.
The initiative was organized following a courtesy visit from Martha Jagger, vice president of the Namibia Senior Citizens Association, who informed McNab about their annual outreach programme and sought support. The request was facilitated with help from Vice President Lucia Witbooi, Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi, and Hardap Region Director of Education, Paulus Lewin, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for the senior citizens.
During their stay in northern Namibia, the group will participate in sports and wellness activities. McNab highlighted the importance of the annual wellness programme as a platform for recreation, cultural exchange, and physical activity, which underscores the significance of active aging and social connection among Namibia's senior citizens. He concluded by thanking President Netumbo-Nandi Ndaitwah and all stakeholders for their commitment to enhancing the welfare of Namibia's elderly citizens.
