Musese: The private operator of the Musese green scheme in the Kavango West Region, Winfried Metzger, has initiated a teacher housing project aimed at addressing accommodation challenges faced by schools in the Musese Constituency. In an interview with Nampa on Tuesday, Metzger revealed that the project, which commenced this month, involves constructing five houses at two schools - three at Nzinze Combined School and two at Haisisira Primary School. The initiative is scheduled for completion within six months.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Metzger explained that each housing building will consist of four flats, accommodating four teachers per house. This project represents an investment of N.dollars 1 million in construction. The initiative addresses a critical issue as rural schools in Namibia often face teacher retention challenges due to inadequate accommodation facilities. Many qualified teachers are hesitant to accept positions in remote areas lacking proper housing.

Metzger shared that the project has garnered financial backing from various sources. He mentioned, 'I have received financial support from family members from my mother's side, they sent N.dollars 60 000.' Each housing unit is designed to offer additional benefits such as free water access and opportunities for teachers to maintain personal gardens. These amenities aim to enhance the living conditions for educators, making rural postings more attractive and improving their overall quality of life.

The project is part of broader efforts to support the Ministry of Education in tackling infrastructure challenges in remote regions. 'Better teacher accommodation might improve education quality, as teachers will be more willing to stay in rural communities longer,' noted Metzger. The Musese green scheme, managed by Metzger, has actively engaged in various community development projects within the Kavango West Region.
