Mexico city: Uncapped forwards Jorge Ruvalcaba and Armando Gonzalez have been included in Mexico's squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Paraguay, the Mexican Football Federation announced on Friday. Gonzalez, aged 22, has showcased impressive form by scoring 11 goals in 16 games for Guadalajara in the current Liga MX season. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Ruvalcaba has contributed four goals and three assists for Pumas UNAM this campaign.
According to Namibia Press Agency, manager Javier Aguirre has opted to leave out Julian Quinones, Santiago Gimenez, Henry Martin, and Alexis Vega due to injury concerns. The friendly matches are set to take place with Mexico hosting Uruguay in Torreon on November 15, followed by a clash against Paraguay in San Antonio, Texas, three days later.
Aguirre has expressed his intention to utilize these matches as an opportunity to fine-tune preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host alongside the United States and Canada next year.
The announced squad for Mexico includes goalkeepers Luis Malagon (America), Jose Rangel (Guadalajara), and Carlos Acevedo (Santos Laguna). The defenders are Kevin Alvarez (America), Israel Reyes (America), Cesar Montes (Lokomotiv), Johan Vazquez (Genoa), Jesus Orozco (Cruz Azul), Jesus Gallardo (Toluca), and Mateo Chavez (AZ Alkmaar).
In the midfield, Edson Alvarez (Fenerbahce), Erik Lira (Cruz Azul), Fidel Ambriz (Monterrey), Gilberto Mora (Tijuana), Erick Sanchez (America), Orbelin Pineda (AEK), Obed Vargas (Seattle Sounders), and Marcel Ruiz (Toluca) have made the cut.
