Windhoek: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Trophimus Hiwilepo as the new chairperson of its board of directors, effective 13 February 2026. In a media statement issued on Tuesday, the company said Hiwilepo has served as an independent non-executive director since July 2024.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Hiwilepo's appointment follows the announcement on 25 November 2025, informing shareholders of the untimely passing of the board's former chairperson, Theofelus Mberirua. MTC stated that Hiwilepo's appointment is in accordance with section 3.59 of the Namibia Securities Exchange Listings Requirements and Article 88 of the Articles of Association.
The company highlighted that the decision reflects its confidence in Hiwilepo's leadership abilities, business acumen, and commitment to Namibia's digital transformation agenda. "He is well positioned to provide strategic oversight and contribute to the continued growth of the company for the benefit of all stakeholders," the statement read.
The board also expressed appreciation to Mercia Geises, who has served as acting chairperson over the past few months, for her leadership and dedication during the transitional period.
