Omuthiya: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has officially opened a permanent new mobile home in Omuthiya on Friday. The initiative is aimed at bringing services closer to the residents of Omuthiya and surrounding areas, with the facility valued at N.dollars 1.5 million.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, who emphasized the importance of making services accessible to all regions. She highlighted the government's commitment to balance service distribution between urban, peri-urban, and rural areas. Theofelus also noted the significant investments required to enhance ICT services and bridge the digital divide, acknowledging the high costs of connectivity technology.

Theofelus reaffirmed the government's dedication to expanding network connectivity through the Universal Access and Service Fund. She reiterated the ministry's commitment to ensuring that communities are connected and have access to essential ICT services.

MTC Chief Commercial Officer Octavius Kahiya announced that the new mobile home is the 38th established countrywide. He reiterated MTC's commitment to bridging the digital divide, stating that the new store marks a significant step in their journey to ensure inclusivity in the digital age.

MTC plans to further expand its presence within this calendar year by opening additional stores in the northeastern part of Namibia. This expansion aims to cater to the growing business and SME sectors, as well as the increasing population in areas such as Katima Mulilo, Divundu, and Rundu.

Community member Maria Andreas expressed her joy and gratitude for the new mobile home, emphasizing the convenience it brings. She noted that the store's opening would reduce her travel costs, as she no longer needs to travel to Ondangwa for phone or MTC card-related issues.
